Eve Echoes, the upcoming spin-off of Eve Online, is available this year before an open beta. Last week at CCPS Annual Event in Eve Vegas, I met with Wei Su, Senior Producer at Netease, and Bing XI, General Manager at CCP Shanghai, to discuss the challenges that deals with himself, the EVE experience Make the phone, which distinguishes ECHOES from Eve Online and your plans for the game for the future.
At first glance, it is certainly resembled Eve Online, only the mobile friendly user interface is characterized. The appearance of this expansive universe, its many planets, effects and interstellar sights is clearly important for Netease and CCP. There are comparisons between an earlier version and the current alpha build. The difference is great, with the latest version, which in my opinion is characterized by significantly improved light and effect functions. The result is a credible science fiction setting that did not have to accept any obvious losses when switching to mobile devices.
This focus on authenticity extends to the space and camphor experience. The slow, methodological way of space battles of his big brother is well suited for the control of touches, and for the most part it is an all-round intuitive experience with a surprisingly clear user interface. These successes clearly did not easily fell easily as the rendering of white lists and the design of the user interface represented the biggest challenges.
Since everything works well and looks good, my next was concerned, which distinguishes exactly from other similar MMOs on the market. The question said, Echoes differs from other MMOs in relation to the SCI-Fi setting and the hardcore experience as well as the player's level. We are a player-controlled sandbox experience.
While the trials of the team to stay faithful to the PC-original, it is obvious that a lot of effort was used to transform EVE to something that works well on mobile devices. With Echoes Wei says: We want to make the experience of gentle-oriented, so you can enjoy Eve Echoes at any time and everywhere. We want to divide longer game sessions in shorter game sessions to return to the whole day.
Interestingly, Echoes plays in a universe parallel to Eve Online. In addition, the CrossSplay is bypassed to enable new and recurring players a new beginning. Sure, many have enjoyed the chance to take their progress from the PC version, but as Bing notes: Due to the complexity of the EVE gameplay design, it is impossible to connect the two games together, while the optimum will receive balance for both. He continues: It is planned not to connect the two universes directly. However, we plan to perform crossover events in the future.
A big problem is how Echoes should be monetized. At the moment, however, the team has no clear answers, and Wei not tells that they are still in an early stage of discussion about monetization. He says, We believe that we want to make it more mobile. With regard to the decision on monetization, we would discuss and communicate with the players in the community. Our basic concept is to stay close to the monetization of EVE online we will respect what our players think and ask them how they should record it.
A strong communication with the community of the game is obviously a great goal for you. Weiss said, We want to build more communication with the players, have more bonds and also want to know what they expect and like, and we'll make the game matching what makes you fun.
With regard to the content after the start, Wei confirms that Event features are on our to-do list. We will provide the timetable for the contents after discussion with CCP and hopefully ready for the soft launch.
Currently it is clear that ECHOES has a great potential. In the build I played, many important functions were missing - including a fundamental tutorial - but the universe and many complicated systems were already surprising Polish. It remains to be seen knowing how the touch control affects important areas such as the ranging, but I was optimistic that CCP and Netease fans and newcomers can equally offer a solid EVE experience. An open beta phase is currently planned for December. All progress that you can achieve during the beta phase will not be transferred to the full version in 2020.
