On Wednesday evening, the DEL record champion cheered the ninth championship with a 5: 0 (1: 0, 3: 0, 1: 0) at the Bavarian rival. After three hard-fought games in the best-of-five series, goals from Matthew White (9./37./60. Minute), Frans Nielsen (25th) and Marcel Noebels (26th) prematurely provided the necessary third victory that was clear this time.
The Munich -based Niederberger, who is supposed to switch to EHC for the new season, repeatedly desperately desperately desperately stuck to the outstanding national goalkeeper Niederberger. "Two or three mistakes - you shouldn't give it to the Berliner, and we bite our teeth against a man," said Munich national striker Max Kastner before the final third at magenta.
The EHC team of the former Berlin master coach Don Jackson was only able to win game one of the final series in a DEL season affected by Corona pandemic. In the end, the Munich team missed the fourth title win after the hat trick from 2016 to 2018. The sovereign DEL main round winner of coach Serge Aubin was too strong for that.
polar bears in the fast lane
With the ninth title, the polar bears passed the eight times masters of Düsseldorf, Cologne and Mannheim, all of whom all collected in the former Bundesliga. The Berliners thus confirmed the title from last year, which was still earned under different conditions. With even stricter Corona regulations, the past season had taken place without any spectators. In the Playoffs a year ago, only two victories to progress or win the title were necessary.
In the meantime, fans have long been approved in the halls and the 5533 spectators in the sold-out small Munich Olympichalle ensured a more atmospheric master framework than in 2021. The audience was quickly contested in view of the clarified and self-confident polar bear. FC Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann in the audience also brought the EHC luck.
Munich cramped, Berlin strikes
The home side started pushing, but cramped too quickly in view of the pressure to have to win. The early sticking point in the game was the ninth minute: a EHC goal by Justin Schütz was not recognized correctly due to a disability in Niederberger. Shortly afterwards the Berliners struck. White explained a dream pass from the Routinian Frank Hördler (37) strong in the playoff. This had an effect. Self -confidence grew with the polar bears. In the middle section, an ice -cold double strike by the polar bears then made the preliminary decision.
Initially, the 38-year-old long-time Danish NHL star Nielsen met for the third time in the final series. Just 51 seconds later, Noebel's striker increased. At the latest after a new shine in Niederberger in the 35th minute against Ben Street seemed clear: the EHC must continue to wait for the fourth title win.
Again White by deflected shot and a hit into the empty network in the final minute made the Berlin final victory perfect after four out of five possible games. This should also have been pleased with national coach Toni Söderholm: of the two final teams, a good half a dozen players could join the squad for the World Cup in Finland (May 13th to 29th) next week.
